Adrienne is at the Over The Rhine Show at Little Brothers whilst I prepare to teach at the Athens Vineyard Tommorrow.

Today I took Ian to the Mid-Ohio Comic Book Convention and we had lunch with 6 Imperial Stormtroopers. Geeky I know, but imagine being five and lunching with the Empire!

Brian Carleson wrote about this on his blog, but I tought I would add a couple of my own observations.

Rajo is the first Somali film EVER made, And we got to see the first showing. It was cool/unsettling to be one of the only two caucasians in the room. During some of the key secenes the entire crowd was on the feet cheering.

One of the walk on parts was of a street guy selling flowers by the Santa Maria in downtown Columbus. Brian and I cheered. It was Roger Van Sickle, a formerly homeless man that our home-group has befriended over the last three years. We have prayed for him countless times, and he just recently (prior to the scene filmed) got off the streets. God Bless you Roger!

After the film I was able to chat with the producer. He seemed to be intrigued that two white guys came to see his movie. He said that as a boy in Somalia he always dreamed of being a filmaker. It was cool to see the culmination of that guy's dream.

If any of you have a chance to see this tonight at 11:35 at Studio 35 I encourage you to do so. Admission is not cheap ($15.00) but it was well worth it.

Today is kinda grey and rainy and being the seasonal affective type, I am feeling a bit gloomy. In order to enter into the spirit of Thanksgiving Day I thought I would write about Adrienne. (Perhaps this is selfish a bit because thinking of her is a great antidepressant.

At age 6 I realized I was a nerd, at age 12 I feared th eapproach of my teenage years, because people would wonder why I couldn't get a date, at 22 I worried that I would never get married.

But now at 32 I marvel that I have been married for over 7 years to Adrienne!

Adrienne has an immeasurable zest for life. She brings life to anything in which she participates. She defines joy for me. When I am in a funk she brings truth to me. When I have been a jerk she brings forgiveness to me. When I am driving like an idiot she steals the keys at the next opportunity.

Adrienne:
Loves the unloved
Forgives the offensive
Welcomes the annoying

She has an immeasurable gift of hospitality to the tune of about 75 people a week (60 on Wednsday)!

She doesn't let me live in my depressed funks!

Her skills as a mom must be straight from God. I have never seen two kids more in love with there mommy. Their love account is bursting full of love deposits from mom. Kathleen wants to be Mommy when she grows up, and Ian at one point wanted to marry her, but I told him that I have dibs.

Adrienne has faith in God that I aspire to. I am so grateful to God that he did not allow me to marry anyone else.

And did I mention that she's HOT!

Jesus, thank-you for my wife.

Every Tuesday night my wife and I are transfixed to the tube watching '"24" on the Fox network. While tuning in this week Adrienne and I caught the final few minutes of "American Idol." Apparently it was a Christmas special of sorts. They were actually singing CHRISTmas songs: Silent Night, Oh Holy Night, etc. The renditions were beautiful. I had to wonder about a show called "American Idol" hosting a celebration of the Humble King born into a stable of straw and manure. Last I checked Idolatry and Christianity were at odds. Perhaps this show was unintentionally a comment on the state of Christendom.

BTW: Preaching at the Athens Vineyard on Saturday on the last part of John 17. Pretty exciting stuff. I am completely indebted to the research of J Edwin Orr for my illustrations of worldwide revival throughout history. Go to his link on the right of his page and listen to one of His Mp3 sermons. The third message that he preached at Wallace Presbyterian is one of my favorites.

If you check the photo gallery you will also find that he had incredibly cool hair!

Darren Young from Ealing England is staying with us. He works with a Church Network called "New Wine" He is here checking out Vineyard Leadership Institute for a few days.

Darren is a nice guy who Ian (my five year old) introduces to others as "our English friend Darren."

Took him to the The Temple of Consumer Excess to find some gifts for his family back home. Brian Carleson came along and we actually went into the sewer that is the Abercrombie Store (Sorry No Link, but even I got my limits).

Brian and I figured out why they play the music so loud in abercrombie that you can't even think!

Cause if you could think, why would you pay those prices for such crap.

Conspicuous Consumption Indeed!

Gnight!

Saturday Night- went to see "Bubba Ho-Tep" at the Drexel Grandview with Bobby Koert. Witnessed the genius that is Bruce Campbell playing an aged Elvis living his last days in Nacodoches Texas with a Black JFK. I would recommend you all (all 3 of you) see this flick.

Today I bought hamsters for Ian & Kathleen. I probably should have consulted Adrienne first, but I was afraid she'd say no. I was in the dog-house for about 5 minutes, but I think the kids joy won her over. Ian named his small gray hamster "Hammy" and Kathleen named her bigger brown hamster "Buddy." Ian insisted on pretending they are minnie guinea pigs. They both prayed blessings on there new pets. Ian asked Jesus to help them to grow really big like guinea pigs. Good luck kid. I hope these pets work out better than that demon possessed cujo dog that we got from the #%**#$ Labrador rescue Place. (it wanted to eat Kathleen when she was a newborn, and almost ate James Mumford)

Uncle Greg says he gives them a week to live. We are trying to teach Kathleen not to hug them so tightly.

I guess the biggest risk for these suckers is diarrhea which can kill them in 24 hours. So I am giving them some medicine called "wet tail" to prevent this in order to abide by the six month warranty against hamster death that Petland gave me. Oh well, I'll bore you guys with something more significant later.

BTW, check out John McCollum's blog. He decked me in middle school but I love the guy.

"If the world is to ever know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the principle means for doing that is not evangelism, not great buildings, not great programs, but a people that love Each-other greatly"

John Wimber 1984, from his workshop on Church Planning: "Writing Your History before it Happens"

I have been listening to Wimber mp3's on my powerbook while taking notes and it is some of the best pastoral mentoring that I have ever received. I've got about 40 hours of this stuff courtesy of Jay Pathak.

I have wept several times listening to these talks. I hope to post more quotes very soon.

BTW our home group web-site is almost up: www.arcadianway.org. Thanks to Grant Wentzel.

BTW, "The Matrix Revolutions" left me cold. The script was so wooden that I found myself constantly wincing. The Brothers Wachowski must of had an overdose of drama flakes as well as some strange drugs. Oh well, people hoped that the Matrix would give us a postmodern mythology, but in reality, the pre-modern mythology of the Lord of the Rings is far more apporpriate, resonating with the true longings of humankind.

Rock on!
