Last night we had the first official meeting of our church planting core team. we had a grub-fest with some awesome chili made by Adrienne utilizing the world famous chili recipe concocted by my Grandpa Nick. (Greeks are the best cooks)

We worshiped, conversed, ate, and prayed from about 6:00 till midnight! I will link to some pics of the event later.

That night I woke up convulsively shivering from a high fever which quickly progressed to two hours of dry heaving. I stopped shivering for as long as Adrienne was praying for me, but started again as soon as she stopped. Ian woke up to my vomiting (I'm a screamer), and came in and started praying for me. I stoped throwing up , laid down, and my fever broke.

I was talking to Johnny Mac today and he told me that he woke up at 3:00am last night and felt he needed to pray for me. Both Adrienne and Ian had the most intersting dreams last night as well. I felt like we got to sample a little bit of heaven and a little bit of hell last night.

Today I had the pleasure of being slandered by an addict friend of mine that I have spent dozens of hours this past 2 months trying to help out. It is liberating to release ownership of someone elses manipulation and bad decisions, but I still fell surprised that my "friend" would slander me.

Oh well, such is life!

Adrienne, thank-you for caring for me through this, and getting "Stepford Wives" from the library so we could watch it together . . .

I got this today from Jonathan Miles: (for you naysayers out there!)
------
This week I saw The Passion of the Christ in Amman, Jordan.  I had already seen the film in Colorado, and found it moving, but I wept much more watching it in a theater filled with Muslims.

Media reports say The Passion has become the biggest blockbuster film ever in the Arab world, surpassing the previous record holder Titanic.  Multiple screen complexes are showing it on several screens, dozens of times a day.  Bootlegged copies on CD are everywhere.

I wept because the film portrays so powerfully and beautifully just what Muslims have been taught to reject:  the crucifixion.  They say that God would not allow his prophet to suffer in such a way, and refer to a Koranic verse which implies that a substitute was put in the place of Jesus on the cross.  Yet now they sit transfixed as the crucifixion is reenacted before their eyes, and from the film’s opening verse from Isaiah 53, the struggle at Gethsemane, and multiple flashbacks to Jesus’ words at his last Passover meal, we understand so clearly why Jesus chose to lay down his life.

Most amazing is that Muslims are queuing up and paying to see this message, spurred on in the wisdom of God by the claims of the film’s anti-Semitism.  It changes the whole dynamic of the message when it is one that the viewer seeks out himself, and comes from a source, Hollywood, which sad to say is viewed with more credibility than the church.

In sum, I don’t believe there has ever been a more powerful presentation of the gospel to the Arab world.  We’re seeing something unprecedented here.  The anointing of the Holy Spirit is evident both in the writing, acting, and production of the film, and in the opening of hearts to receive it.  Let our faith be increased that God is at work in the Arab world, and let us get behind what he is doing in prayer and in our own availability to serve.

In a few minutes I will be leaving for the Gaza Strip, carrying my own copy of The Passion to share with some of our closest friends there.  Would you pray with me that here too the Spirit of God will be at work?

Depending on God’s grace,

Jonathan@shevet.org

UPDATE : links galore-- Bail Has Been Set--the Judge set Bond for Don. Pray that his enablers don't cough up the cash to put this guy back in public. I had a long conversation with a young man who was duped by Don. Pray that all the people who were deceived by Don see the light.

--end UPDATE--

For four years I have been praying that Don Harvey would be found out for what he is and be arrested. This guy has tried to infiltrate many churches. He is surrounded by enablers. God protected our church from this evil man. That's a long story of God's faithfulness. (that I won't go into today)

When I saw this story on the news I felt relieved that my prayers have finally been answered!

Don is the definition of "People of the Lie." He was one of the very first people busted for online child pornography in New Hampshire and Florida, but that is before the laws were toughened up and "Megan's Law" was introduced. New Hampshire goes to great lengths to protect it's sexual predators.

Special Agent Douglas Rehman (FBI) was the one who busted Don initially in the early 1990's (94 I think). He is one of the countries foremost experts on cyber crime.

I'm so thankful that our church does complete background checks on all it's youth and children's workers. Every church (or any organization that works with children) should have this check in place.

Mark Tindall!

Wow, I was pretty blown away that you had found this blog. Over the years you have found numerous ways to bless and encourage me. When I talk to many about our vision for church planting I cannot help but remember late night talks in our back yards by North Broadway. You would be happy to know that I have kept up the traditions of back-yard food and conversations (adding a fire pit as well) with our friends and neighbors.

Right now I am sitting in the back room at my desk, butt resting on a bright yellow chair with comic book sound baloons and sound effects shellacked all over the seat area. (I've got to post a pick of this chair)

Underneath the chair it reads:

(Just a second while I turn the seat over)(begin quote)

12!
Beaming with sunshine like Adrienne, VZAKKING! with Kinetic energy like Jeff, this chair reminds us of you two. Although you rarely sit, us it to hobnob with the angels."

Then you wrote the verse: "Let the love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this, some have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:1,2

(end quote)

When Adrienne and I were first married we lived in a 170.00 a month hovel on Pacemont and High (later lived in by Zach Kempthorne). The place was so small that we had no room for a table, so we sat on the floor and ate GFS chicken breasts of this chair.

Mark, it's great to hear from you.

Mark was the first pastor at Joshua House who wanted to Spread the loving to his old stomping grounds in PA. Mar

Mark planted the Blue Route Vineyard, where he is senior pastor, joined by my old buddy Patrick Crawford as assistant pastor (Patrick is Megan's brother)
